Amano, which means ‘by hand’ in Italian, is a true expression of its name – bespoke in nature, oozing with European sophistication and located in a suburb that feels like a slice of stylish, Italian coastline. Comprised of just 5 individually-designed apartments, Amano is an ode to the elegance of Brighton, offering captivating architecture, immaculate interiors and artfully-appointed landscaping. Within walking distance of culturally rich Church Street and the breathtaking Brighton beach, relish a life of convenience, style and natural beauty – each and everyday.

An alluring composition that settles seamlessly into the fabric of Well Street, Amano’s facade is at once stately and sophisticated – meticulously designed by local firm Rigney Scerri Architects. Monumental in appearance, the building’s form is inspired by Midcentury Modern minimalism, exhibiting clean lines and wide eaves. Informed by Brighton’s organic, coastal landscape, the facade is adorned in natural materials, including a striking contrast of light and dark stone cladding. Generous landscaping serves to soften the building’s overall look and feel while honouring the leafiness of picturesque Well Street.

“The key design driver was our objective to create a building which possessed a strong sense of European sophistication”

James Rigney,
Director of rigney scerri architects.
Elegantly curated interiors

Curated with intuition and intent, Amano’s ambient interiors evoke an instant air of prestige. Here, the finishes palette has been selected without compromise, boasting a prolific use of natural stone, rich oak floors and sophisticated timber joinery throughout. Generously proportioned layouts have been purposefully designed to allow comfortable, natural movement throughout the apartments. Luxurious yet liveable, the overall feel is one of warm elegance.

Sublime outdoor living

In celebration of the site’s naturally picturesque surrounds, Amano is distinguished by a strong connection to the outdoors. Vast, soaring windows draw in an abundance of natural light while framing external vistas of spectacular outdoor landscape. Fostering an outdoor lifestyle, living rooms lead out to generously sized courtyards – perfect for outdoor entertaining on those balmy, summer nights.

“The multi layered functional and highly aesthetic nature of the courtyards open their usability up to so many different options from entertaining larger numbers to a quiet moment of contemplation and reflection.”

Director, COS DESIGN.
Private Sanctuaries

Awash with natural light, the bathrooms of Amano are sanctuaries of private retreat. Artfully appointed, a neutral palette of finishes creates a soothing ambience while instating an air of hotel-style luxury. An abundance of integrated storage ensures there’s a place for all your things while ample bench space presents the perfect workbench for your morning or nightly routine.

The brighton lifestyle

The cultural leader of bayside, Brighton living is all about life’s finer things. Streets abound with exemplars of both hospitality and retail, intertwining critically acclaimed restaurants and sought-after cafés with a myriad of designer boutiques. It is, however, Brighton’s natural offerings that have affirmed its reputation as one of Melbourne’s finest places to live. From the famously sublime beach, to the idyllic parks and gardens, to the picturesque tree lined streets, such is a suburb set up for serenity.

Eat & Drink

In the last decade, Brighton has more than proven itself as a frontrunner in Melbourne’s hospitality game. Critically acclaimed restaurants, trendy cafes and vivacious bars sit arm and arm along Church Street, which just happens to be a 3-minute walk from Amano.

If you consider yourself to be a bit of a foodie, Church Street is sure to tick all your culinary boxes. Boasting a spacious, stylish fit out, the famed Half Moon Hotel boasts a convivial atmosphere – the perfect setting for enjoying up-market pub food, craft beers and fine wines. A stone’s throw up the road, Melbourne institution Hellenic Republic is at your beck and call with Greek food that sits at the top of its game.

As Bayside’s most beloved water front venue, Upstairs at Brighton Baths boasts some of the most breathtaking views in Melbourne. The a la carte menu is skewed toward French and Italian recipes, churning out exquisite seafood dishes, epicurean cheese selections and a combination of local and international wines.

When it comes to coffee culture, Brighton delivers. On any day of the week, eateries are ahum with eager patrons devouring their heavenly brunch dishes and savouring their artisan cups of coffee. An exemplar of the suburb’s thriving café scene is The Pantry, a venue for which the suburb has become renowned.

The ultimate date night in Brighton would have to be dinner and a movie. There are endless options to pair with the Dendy Cinemas, from Hellenic Republic and Half Moon to The Pantry and Boticelli Ristorante. If you’re after somewhere a little more intimate – away from the hustle bustle of the main drag – try Osteriya on Hampton Street. The stylish restaurant dishes up traditional Italian with subtle hints of Japanese flavour.

Retail

Retail has long been Brighton’s forte, reflected head to toe on the suburb’s impeccably well-dressed community. A walk down Church Street is a kin to a walk down a fashion runway, where an impressive collection of high-end brands is showcased from within beautifully designed stores.

If you’re in the market for classic, wearable pieces suited to the laidback Brighton lifestyle, look no further than quintessential Aussie brand Country Road. Here, women’s, men’s and children’s clothing are on display among a host of contemporary homewares. Echoing similar sentiments of wearability, Hoss is a few doors down, a boutique known for its patterned, flowy garments – perfect for summer.

A little further up the road, Flannel is another Church Street fashion exemplar, housing a catalogue of high-end garments for the feminine yet modern wardrobe. With a distinctly ‘Parisian Chic’ aesthetic, it’s impossible not to look effortless and sophisticated while dressed in Flannel’s quality pieces. Also an Australian retail icon, Gorman is located just next door, where a trove of colourful pieces is yours to explore.

Parks & Recreation

Although Brighton is renowned for its picture-perfect beach, it is also the home of some of Melbourne’s most idyllic parks and gardens. With an array of recreational amenities also found within the postcode – the iconic Brighton Baths included – the suburb is one that fosters leisurely living.

By foot, Brighton’s widely celebrated beach is just 5-minutes from your doorstep. Recognisable by the row of kaleidoscopic bathing boxes lining its golden shore, enjoy refreshing swims, lazy walks in the sun and days spent lounging about on the sand with your loved ones. Views out to the glittering city skyline are just the icing on the cake.

The beach is also very much synonymous with the enviable amenities that adjoin it. The award-winning Brighton Yacht Club is one of Australia’s premier clubs, offering a host of sailing events for all levels of ability.

An icon of Brighton and the bayside suburbs as a whole, the Brighton Baths and accompanying health club provide a unique and community-focused way to keep fit. From gym facilities and personal training to pool access and the infamous Icebergs group, there is something for everyone at this historic destination.

Off the shore, Brighton is replete with luscious parks, tree-lined streets and a plethora of suburb amenities. Moments of outdoor rejuvenation are never more than a short walk from Amano, with parks like the historic Kamesburgh Gardens close at hand. Here, admire mature trees and perfectly manicured lawns as your wander leisurely around the shaded foot path.

“A good design outcome can only result from the collaboration of acommited and passionate team. This is what makes what we do so exciting...”
